The perfect fluffy naan that pairs beautifully with curries, soups, dips — or even used as a wrap! Super simple and 100% plant-based.
IngredientsWet:
1 cup warm water (not hot)
1 tsp active dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
⅓ cup plain unsweetened vegan yogurt
2½ tbsp oil
Dry:
2⅓ cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp ground coriander
½ tsp cumin
Pinch of extra salt
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, add warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir and let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
While it proofs, mix all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
Once yeast is ready, add oil and yogurt to the bowl and mix.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix using a stand mixer with a dough hook for 2–3 minutes until a soft dough forms.
Shape into a ball, place back in the bowl, lightly oil the surface, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
Once risen, transfer dough to a floured surface, flatten slightly, and divide into 6–8 balls. You can refrigerate or freeze at this point if needed.
Heat a cast iron or non-stick pan over medium heat with a light brush of oil.
Roll out one ball at a time (about ¼ inch thick).
Cook each naan until bubbles form and underside is golden, then flip and cook 1–2 more minutes.
Optional: brush with vegan garlic butter. Serve warm with your favorite dishes!
