Homemade Vegan Naan – Quick & Soft

The perfect fluffy naan that pairs beautifully with curries, soups, dips — or even used as a wrap! Super simple and 100% plant-based.

IngredientsWet:

  • 1 cup warm water (not hot)

  • 1 tsp active dry yeast

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • ⅓ cup plain unsweetened vegan yogurt

  • 2½ tbsp oil

Dry:

  • 2⅓ cups flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp ground coriander

  • ½ tsp cumin

  • Pinch of extra salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir and let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. While it proofs, mix all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl.

  3. Once yeast is ready, add oil and yogurt to the bowl and mix.

  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix using a stand mixer with a dough hook for 2–3 minutes until a soft dough forms.

  5. Shape into a ball, place back in the bowl, lightly oil the surface, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

  6. Once risen, transfer dough to a floured surface, flatten slightly, and divide into 6–8 balls. You can refrigerate or freeze at this point if needed.

  7. Heat a cast iron or non-stick pan over medium heat with a light brush of oil.

  8. Roll out one ball at a time (about ¼ inch thick).

  9. Cook each naan until bubbles form and underside is golden, then flip and cook 1–2 more minutes.

  10. Optional: brush with vegan garlic butter. Serve warm with your favorite dishes!
